Previous: What's awesome about Toronto Next: Poland: Winged Hussars
If enough of our friends get married, we'll see the world! Weddings are a great way to see a new and different place - everybody's happy and having a good time, there are lots of friends and relations who speak the language and know the culture to help show you around, and you get to live a bit of the high life, often at someone else's expense!
Last year, some friends of ours got married in Caracas, Venezuela. This year, other friends got married in Krakow, Poland.
My partner had taught in Poland for several years in the late 90s, and she insisted that we first visit Warsaw before going to Krakow. It was a great trip, and my first time behind the ex Iron Curtain since two hurried days in Prague in late 1992.
Poland is doing really well, especially in the main cities. Warsaw is full of bustle, and Krakow is turning into the new big European tourist destination - the new Prague, for good and for ill. The country is busily getting past a horrific century, and is looking to be the central European powerhouse that it should have been all along.
More posts coming soon with some more specifics.
So, my friends in Shanghai, when are *you* tying the knot so we can come visit you there?!
